EADEN and FCDE Build Gabion Walls and Terraces to Curb Erosion
Communities in Bududa are restoring their environment through simple yet powerful watershed practices—gabion walls, terraces, and tree planting—that protect farmlands and build climate resilience.
The Eastern Archdiocesan Development Network (EADEN), in partnership with the Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment (FCDE), has established gabion walls and terraces in Busirwa Sub-county, Bududa District as part of ongoing watershed management efforts.
The intervention aims to reduce soil erosion, control flooding, and protect farmlands in the landslide-prone hills of Bududa. Alongside these structures, community members have planted bamboo, fruit trees, and indigenous species along riverbanks to restore vegetation cover and improve soil stability.
During a recent monitoring visit, EADEN and FCDE teams commended the community’s active participation and ownership of the initiative. The partners reaffirmed their commitment to promoting climate-resilient and sustainable land use practices across Eastern Uganda.
