EADEN and Biofertilizer Africa Distribute Waste Bins to 8 Schools in Eastern Uganda
As part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and climate-resilient livelihoods, the Eastern Archdiocesan Development Network (EADEN), in partnership with Biofertilizer Africa and with support from DGBP, rolled out a school-based waste management initiative under the project titled:“Waste Management for a Safe Environment and Climate-Resilient Livelihoods.”
Through this initiative, waste sorting bins were distributed to eight schools across the districts of Tororo, Iganga, Bugiri, and Mbale City. The aim is to instil good waste management habits among children, promote environmental cleanliness, and encourage a culture of responsible waste disposal from an early age.
Each school received colour-coded waste bins to support effective sorting and disposal:
Red bins for plastics
Black bins for paper
Green bins for biodegradable waste
“Teaching children how to sort and manage waste not only keeps their schools clean, but also builds a generation that is environmentally conscious and proactive about climate action,” said a representative from EADEN.
This initiative does more than just improve sanitation in schools — it serves as a practical learning tool that integrates environmental education into daily student life. Through regular engagement and monitoring, pupils are learning:
The importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste
The value of keeping their environment clean
How proper waste disposal can contribute to climate change mitigation
By combining education with action, this project is laying the groundwork for long-term behavioral change — helping communities embrace cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable lifestyles.
