Promoting Clean Energy in Busiriwa subcounty, Bududa district
EADEN and FCDE promotes Lorena Energy-Saving Cook stoves Households in Bududa are embracing the Lorena energy-saving cook-stoves, an initiative supported by FCDE that saves firewood, protects the environment, and promotes cleaner, healthier cooking.
With support from the Foundation for Community Development and Empowerment (FCDE), the Eastern Archdiocesan Development Network (EADEN) promoted Lorena energy-saving cookstoves in Bududa District. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation and climate-resilient livelihoods in the Mt. Elgon region.
The Lorena cookstove, made from locally available materials such as clay and sand, uses less firewood and produces minimal smoke compared to traditional cooking methods. This innovation helps to reduce deforestation, improve household air quality, and protect the health of women and children who spend long hours in the kitchen.
Community members have been trained to construct and maintain the stoves themselves, creating local ownership and skills for sustainable adoption. Families have already reported reduced firewood costs and shorter cooking times, contributing to better household welfare.
Through this partnership, EADEN and FCDE continue to empower rural communities in Bududa to adopt clean energy solutions and environmentally friendly practices that protect both people and nature.
