Nawandala Market Clean-Up Day: Youth and Community Unite for a Greener Tomorrow

Nawandala Market Clean-Up Day: Youth and Community Unite for a Cleaner, Greener Future.

On 15th March 2025, Nawandala Trading Centre buzzed with excitement and teamwork as the community came together for the Market Clean-Up Day, a powerful initiative organized by the Young Agents for Change project in partnership with EADEN and Caritas Uganda, with generous funding from the Global Engagement, Education and Cooperation Fund (GLOBUS). The event aimed to promote environmental sustainability, responsible waste management, and community collaboration, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A team of 17 GLOBUS visitors joined local youth, community members, and market vendors to sweep, collect, and sort waste across the trading centre.

Amid songs, sensitization messages, and laughter, participants demonstrated that a clean environment begins with collective action. Market vendors were encouraged to maintain cleanliness through proper waste disposal and recycling practices.

The event received wide coverage from Bukedde and RFM Media Groups, further spreading awareness on the importance of environmental care. The clean-up not only transformed the market’s appearance but also strengthened bonds between Ugandan and Danish youth, showcasing the power of global partnerships in tackling local challenges. Together, they proved that small actions can inspire big change for the planet and for the people.
