Caritas Denmark Programme Coordinator Visit to EADEN

In a concerted effort to strengthen partnerships and evaluate ongoing progress, Lars, the Caritas Denmark Programme Coordinator for the Uganda Governance and Poverty Alleviation Programme (UGOPAP), recently conducted a comprehensive monitoring visit to the Eastern Archdiocesan Development Network (EADEN). The visit, which took place in early September, focused on assessing the impact of UGOPAP’s activities, particularly those under EADEN’s SPECIAL III project, and engaging with local cooperatives and households benefiting from the program.

Field Visit to Nawandala Integrated Farmers Cooperative

One of the key highlights of Lars’ visit was his tour of the Nawandala Integrated Farmers Cooperative Society in Iganga. This cooperative has been an essential part of EADEN’s work under the SPECIAL III project, which aims to improve food security, enhance livelihoods, and promote sustainable farming practices. Lars had the opportunity to meet cooperative members, hear their success stories, and witness firsthand the positive changes being implemented in their agricultural practices.

The cooperative members shared their experiences with Lars, highlighting how UGOPAP’s support has enabled them to improve their farming techniques, access better markets, and achieve greater food security for their households. Lars praised the cooperative’s resilience and innovation, noting that these successes underscore the importance of grassroots-level engagement in achieving long-term development goals.

Engagement with Progressive Households

During his visit, Lars also met with a number of progressive households involved in the SPECIAL III project. These households have adopted sustainable farming methods and diversified their income sources, improving their overall livelihoods. Through direct engagement, Lars was able to gain insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by these households, while also learning more about how UGOPAP’s interventions have empowered them to achieve greater financial independence.

Meeting with EADEN Staff

Lars’ visit also included a fruitful meeting with the EADEN staff involved in implementing the SPECIAL III project. The meeting covered a range of topics, from ongoing program activities to future priorities, with a special focus on strategic alignment between the program and financial management teams. EADEN’s Executive Director, alongside project staff, provided background information on EADEN, key updates on project implementation, sharing success stories and identifying areas for further collaboration.

Conclusion

Lars’ monitoring visit to EADEN was not only a testament to the strength of the partnership between Caritas Denmark and EADEN but also a crucial opportunity to assess the impact of UGOPAP in the field. Through collaborative discussions and field engagements, the visit reinforced the importance of grassroots initiatives, the need for clear communication, and the value of strategic planning as the partners look towards the next phase of UGOPAP.

As EADEN continue to implement impactful activities under UGOPAP, the lessons and insights gained from this visit will serve to guide future program priorities, ensuring that communities continue to benefit from improved livelihoods, food security, and sustainable development initiatives.

Stay tuned for more updates on UGOPAP’s work and its ongoing impact on communities in Uganda!
