EADEN and PELUM Uganda Support Briquette Production in Mbale
Communities in Mbale City are turning waste into wealth through briquette and stove making—an initiative promoting clean energy, environmental conservation, and improved livelihoods.
The Eastern Archdiocesan Development Network (EADEN), in partnership with PELUM Uganda, has supported the community of Nabitiri Ward, Industrial Division, Mbale City with briquette-making equipment and intensive training on briquette production, energy-saving stove construction, and efficient stove use.
The initiative aims to promote clean, affordable, and sustainable energy alternatives while reducing reliance on charcoal and firewood. By transforming agricultural and household waste into briquettes, the community is not only addressing deforestation but also creating new income-generating opportunities.
During the training sessions, participants learned hands-on techniques for producing high-quality briquettes, constructing durable stoves, and marketing their products. The initiative has already inspired local groups to start small-scale production and supply eco-friendly briquettes to nearby markets.
As a result of the project, the Nabitiri community has already sold briquettes and energy-saving stoves worth over UGX 1.5 million, demonstrating the economic potential of green energy enterprises. The income earned is helping households improve their livelihoods while keeping the environment clean and safe.
Through such partnerships, EADEN and PELUM Uganda continue to drive efforts toward green business development, environmental protection, and climate resilience across Eastern Uganda.
